Ferrite Core Transformers

An SMPS transformer manufacturer that builds to your converter

A switch mode power supply transformer does three jobs at once: it moves energy at the switching frequency, it sets the output voltages through its turns ratios, and it keeps the output galvanically separated from the mains. As an SMPS transformer manufacturer, NG Electronics builds each part around the converter it will sit in, because a transformer that is correct for one controller and frequency can run hot or saturate in another.

The topology decides most of the construction. A flyback stores energy in a gapped core and suits lower power with few parts. A forward converter passes energy straight through during the on-time and needs a core reset path and an output inductor. Push-pull uses a centre-tapped primary and works well from low input voltages, but the two halves must be balanced. Half-bridge and full-bridge designs swing the core flux in both directions and are the usual choice as power rises.

We work as a custom ferrite transformer manufacturer rather than a catalogue-only seller, so the core shape, bobbin, pin-out and winding order are chosen for your board. EE and EF cores are economical and widely supported with bobbins. ETD and EER cores have a round centre leg that shortens the turn length and takes thicker wire easily. PQ cores give a compact footprint for the power handled, and RM cores suit dense, low-profile layouts.

Applications

Where our SMPS transformers are used

Typical uses for the transformers we build are listed below.

Inside a switch-mode power supply - Industrial power supplies

Industrial power supplies

DIN-rail and open-frame supplies for control panels need a ferrite transformer for industrial power supply duty: wide input range, continuous load and a warm enclosure. We build to the stated worst case, not the nominal one.

UPS battery room - UPS and inverter auxiliary rails

UPS and inverter auxiliary rails

Housekeeping converters inside UPS systems and solar inverters feed gate drivers, fans and control logic, usually from small multi-output transformers.

Industrial automation robot - Automation and drives

Automation and drives

PLC modules, sensors and drive control cards use compact isolated supplies. RM and small EE or EF cores keep board area down while still providing the separation the control side needs.

Telecom tower - LED drivers and telecom supplies

LED drivers and telecom supplies

Constant-current LED drivers and DC-fed telecom converters run for long hours, so copper loss and core loss are balanced carefully to keep the winding temperature steady over the product life.

Design guide

What to specify when you order an SMPS transformer

A clear specification saves a sample round. The transformer is sized at the worst corner of the design, which is normally minimum input voltage at full load for peak current and maximum input voltage for insulation stress. A part sized on nominal figures alone can pass on the bench and struggle in the field, so we ask for the full range before quoting.

Frequency and core size pull against each other. A higher switching frequency allows fewer turns and a smaller core, but core loss and AC copper loss both rise, so the smallest core is not always the coolest. If you already have a reference design or a controller datasheet, send it along; it tells us the duty cycle limits and the current waveform the windings must carry.

  1. Input rangeState minimum and maximum input voltage, and whether it is AC mains, rectified DC bus or a battery. This sets primary turns and the flux swing.
  2. OutputsList every output with voltage, continuous current and peak current, plus any auxiliary or bias winding for the controller.
  3. Frequency and topologyGive the switching frequency, the topology and the controller IC if chosen. For a flyback, add the required primary inductance and tolerance.
  4. IsolationTell us the test voltage between primary and secondary and any creepage or clearance distances your safety standard requires, so the insulation build is designed in from the start.
  5. Mechanical limitsShare maximum height, footprint, pin-out and mounting style. A PCB drawing or an existing sample is the quickest way to fix these.

About NG Electronics

Why buyers choose NG Electronics for SMPS transformers

NG Electronics was founded in 2017 by Nishant Gaikwad and today has a team of more than 50 people in Pune. As an ISO 9001:2015 certified company, we keep batch records that link each lot to its raw material and production date. For buyers comparing a ferrite core transformer manufacturer in India, that traceability matters when a field return needs to be traced to a specific build.

Nothing is sent outside for winding. Our floor has semi-automatic winding machines, automatic transformer testers, LCR testers, impulse testers and insulation breakdown testers, so turns ratio, inductance, winding resistance and hipot are checked before dispatch. The route is simple: you share the specification, we return a technical quotation, a free sample goes to your lab for approval, and production follows with every unit electrically tested.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about SMPS transformer manufacturer from NG Electronics, an ISO 9001:2015 certified company

We need the input voltage range, each output voltage and current, the switching frequency, the topology and the isolation requirement. Mechanical limits such as height, footprint and pin-out help too. If you have a reference design, a controller datasheet or an existing sample, send that as well. With this information NG Electronics normally returns a technical quotation within 24 working hours.

We manufacture flyback, forward and push-pull transformers, along with gate-drive and isolation transformers used in half-bridge and full-bridge converters. Our ferrite transformer range runs from under 1 VA up to several hundred watts. If your converter falls near the top of that range, share the full specification and our engineers will confirm whether it fits before quoting.

EE and EF cores are the economical default and have the widest choice of bobbins. ETD and EER cores have a round centre leg, which makes thick wire easier to wind and shortens each turn. PQ cores handle more power for a given board area. RM cores are compact and suit dense layouts at lower power. Height limit, power level and cost usually settle the choice.

Yes. For custom designs we supply a free sample for approval in your lab, and single-piece prototype samples are possible. Custom samples are typically ready within 7 to 10 working days. Around 10 pieces is a common quantity for R&D and prototyping, while production orders for custom parts typically start between 100 and 1,000 pieces.

Every unit is electrically tested before dispatch, not a sample from the batch. Depending on the part, checks include inductance, DC resistance and hipot between windings, using LCR testers, automatic transformer testers, impulse testers and insulation breakdown testers. A test certificate can be supplied with the order on request, and batch records trace each lot to raw material and production date.

We ship across India from our Pune works, and overseas enquiries are welcome. Send the specification and delivery location and we will advise on quantity, packing and timing. Materials are RoHS and REACH compliant, and certificate copies are available on request for your vendor approval file.
