A custom wound inductor is a coil designed and manufactured specifically for one application rather than selected from a standard catalogue. The core material, core size, number of turns, wire gauge, winding technique, termination style and insulation system are all chosen to meet a particular set of electrical and mechanical requirements.

Because standard parts force compromise. A custom inductor lets you hit exact inductance at your actual DC bias, fit an awkward footprint, use the terminal style your assembly process needs, meet a specific temperature rise or safety requirement, and often costs less in volume than an over-specified catalogue part. It also removes the risk of a catalogue part being discontinued mid-programme.

At minimum: required inductance and tolerance, continuous and peak current, operating frequency, applied voltage, permitted temperature rise, available footprint and mounting style, and expected quantities. Prototype samples can be built as single pieces. Production MOQ depends on the design and typically falls between 100 and 1,000 pieces, with pricing improving materially at higher volumes. We are happy to discuss scheduled releases against an annual commitment.
