Storage and filter inductors for a converter still on the bench, where the value may change between board revisions.
Enquire nowA prototype inductor is useful only if the production part behaves the same way. Our approach to inductor prototype manufacturing is to build the first sample with the core, wire and construction intended for volume, so that what you validate on the bench is what later arrives in cartons. NG Electronics does this work at its Pune facility, where the engineers who design a sample also oversee the production build.
Development teams rarely know the final inductor value on day one. A converter may need two or three iterations as the switching frequency, ripple target or enclosure height changes. For that stage we make custom inductor samples in small numbers: a single piece for a custom design where that is all you need, or about 10 pieces when several boards are being built for testing.
Once the design is frozen, the same specification moves to bulk custom inductor manufacturing without a change of vendor. Production lots for custom parts typically start between 100 and 1,000 pieces. We can use ferrite, iron powder, MPP, Sendust, High Flux, nanocrystalline or air cores, and finish the part for through-hole, SMD, chassis or flying-lead mounting, depending on the application.
ISO 9001:2015 certifiedElectrical values are set by your design sheet. The figures below describe quantities, timing and the options available at each stage.
| Prototype quantity | Single piece possible for custom designs; about 10 pieces for R&D |
|---|---|
| Sample lead time | Typically 7 to 10 working days for custom samples |
| Production MOQ | Typically 100 to 1,000 pieces for custom parts |
| Inductance and current | Specified per design |
| Core materials | Ferrite, iron powder, MPP, Sendust, High Flux, nanocrystalline, air core |
| Mounting formats | Through-hole, SMD, chassis and flying-lead |
| Testing | 100% electrical test: inductance, DCR, Q factor, saturation current, hipot |
| Compliance | RoHS and REACH compliant materials; certificate copies available on request |

The electrical design should not change, but the way the part is made usually does. A one-off is often wound with considerable manual setting-up, which is acceptable for a few pieces. For volume, the winding is set up on semi-automatic toroidal or linear winding machines, and holding tools or formers may be prepared so that turns, lead positions and dimensions repeat. Any tooling a part needs is identified on the quotation, not after the order.
Testing also scales. A prototype is measured individually on the bench. In production, a dedicated test fixture and fixed limits are typically used so that every unit is checked quickly against the same criteria. Packaging is settled at this point too, for example trays or reels to suit your assembly line. Raising these matters during inductor NPI avoids a second round of approval when the first bulk order is placed.

Keeping the prototype and the production run with one manufacturer removes the risk that a sample house and a volume vendor interpret a drawing differently. NG Electronics is an ISO 9001:2015 certified company founded in 2017, and it has grown to a team of more than 50. Samples and production parts are measured on the same LCR testers and insulation test equipment, so results are directly comparable.
We are also a small batch inductor manufacturer by choice, not reluctantly. Flexible minimum quantities mean a pilot run of a few dozen boards can be supported before volumes are known. Batch records give traceability to raw material and production date from the first production lot onwards. Deliveries go out from Pune to all parts of India, and overseas development teams are welcome to enquire.

After you share the specification, a technical quotation is issued within 24 working hours. Custom samples are then typically wound, tested and dispatched within 7 to 10 working days. The time depends on whether the core and wire are in stock, and any longer material lead time is stated on the quotation.
Yes, single-piece prototype samples are possible for custom designs. If you are building several test boards, about 10 pieces is the usual R&D quantity. Ordering a few spares is sensible, since parts are sometimes damaged during rework or destructive testing.
As part of our standard process, a free sample is provided for lab approval once the technical quotation is agreed. Design support is also free against firm production intent. If a project needs repeated redesigns or special materials with no production plan, the terms are discussed at the quotation stage.
That is the purpose of freezing the specification after approval. Core material, wire gauge, turns and construction stay the same. The winding method and test fixtures may change to suit volume, and every production unit is tested for inductance, DCR, Q factor, saturation current and hipot against the agreed limits.
Production MOQ for custom inductors is typically between 100 and 1,000 pieces, depending on the core, wire and any tooling involved. Smaller pilot lots can be discussed. The applicable quantity is stated on the quotation so that cost can be compared at different volumes.
Tell us the circuit topology, input and output voltages, current, switching frequency and space available, and our engineers will propose a design. The inductance calculator on our website gives a first estimate. The proposed values are confirmed on the technical quotation before any sample is wound.
