Enquire nowA drum core is a ferrite bobbin with the winding sitting in the open between two flanges. It is compact and economical, but the magnetic path closes through air, so part of the field spreads beyond the component. As a shielded drum core inductor supplier, NG Electronics builds the same winding with a ferrite sleeve or a magnetic resin coating around it, giving the flux a return path inside the part instead of through nearby tracks and components.
Shielding is a trade-off, not a free upgrade. A shielded part radiates less and can sit closer to its neighbours, and the closed path usually raises inductance for a given number of turns. An unshielded part of the same size typically keeps its inductance up to a higher current before the core saturates, and it costs less. We make both types and will tell you when the open version is the more sensible choice.
As a drum core inductor manufacturer in India, we wind and test every part at our own works in Pune instead of trading imported reels. That matters when a board needs a value, height or lead pitch that a catalogue does not list. The range covers 1 µH to 1 mH, with SMD drum core inductor formats for reflow assembly and radial or axial leaded parts for through-hole boards.
ISO 9001:2015 certifiedThese are the limits we build to. Current ratings depend on wire gauge, core size and the temperature rise you can accept, so they are fixed per design and stated on the quotation.

If you are replacing an existing part, send its datasheet or the footprint drawing so that pad layout, height and electrical values can be matched before a sample is wound.
A shield is worth its cost wherever an inductor sits close to something that reacts to a changing magnetic field.

Point-of-load converters often sit next to data and clock lines. Shielded parts allow closer spacing between the power stage and the signal circuitry.

Stray switching-frequency flux can couple into low-level audio stages and wiring loops. Shielded inductors in the supply section help keep that coupling down.

Sensor front ends and analogue inputs work with small signals. Keeping converter flux inside the inductor is one of the simpler ways to protect them.

In an open drum core the field leaves one flange, arcs through the air around the winding and re-enters the other flange. Any conductor loop inside that arc picks up a voltage at the switching frequency. Two unshielded inductors placed side by side also couple to each other, which shifts their effective inductance and can pass ripple between rails. Turning adjacent parts at right angles or spacing them apart helps, but both cost board area.
A sleeve or resin shield shortens the air path, so most of the flux stays within the component outline. The field is reduced, not removed, and the shield does nothing for noise conducted along the tracks, so layout and filtering still matter. The smaller effective gap also means the core reaches saturation at a lower current, which is why a high current drum core inductor is often left unshielded or built on a larger core.

NG Electronics was founded in 2017 by Nishant Gaikwad and today has a team of more than 50 people in Pune. We are an ISO 9001:2015 certified company, and each batch carries records that trace it back to the raw material and the production date. Because winding and testing happen under one roof, a change to wire gauge, turns or lead length does not have to wait for an overseas factory.
The buying process is short. Send the specification and a technical quotation follows within 24 working hours. A free sample is then made for approval in your lab, and production runs with every unit electrically tested. A test certificate can be supplied with the order on request. We ship across India from Pune, and enquiries from overseas buyers are welcome.

Answers about shielded drum core inductor supplier from NG Electronics, an ISO 9001:2015 certified company
A distributor sells fixed catalogue values. NG Electronics winds the parts in Pune, so inductance, wire gauge, lead pitch and the shielding method can be set for your board. Stock items typically dispatch within 24 hours, and custom samples are typically ready within 7 to 10 working days.
No. Shielding lowers the stray magnetic field, which helps on crowded boards and near sensitive circuits. For the same body size, however, an unshielded part typically saturates at a higher current and costs less. If the inductor has clear space around it and emissions are under control, the unshielded part can be the better engineering choice.
A ferrite sleeve is a separate ring fitted around the wound drum, leaving a small gap between sleeve and flanges. Magnetic resin is a compound loaded with magnetic powder that is applied over the winding. Both give the flux a return path close to the coil. The sleeve generally contains the field more completely, while resin suits compact SMD parts.
Drum core inductors are made from 1 µH to 1 mH in shielded and unshielded construction. Formats are SMD, radial and axial, with tape and reel packing where your assembly line requires it. Current rating is set per design, because it depends on the wire gauge, core size and allowable temperature rise.
Yes. The minimum order is flexible, at about 10 pieces for R&D and prototyping, and single-piece prototype samples are possible for custom designs. Production quantities for custom parts typically start between 100 and 1,000 pieces, depending on the core and winding involved.
Every unit is electrically tested, not a sample from the lot. The checks cover inductance, DCR, Q factor, saturation current and hipot, using LCR testers and insulation breakdown testers in our own facility. A test certificate is supplied with the order on request, and batch records link each lot to its raw material.
